SysInfo.EXE v 5.3
Usage: SYSINFO [d:] {where "d:" is DRIVE - optional}
Function: Show the internal configuration of an IBM or true compatible PC.
SysInfo (pronounced Sys-Info) determines:
Type of computer (PC, PCJr, PC-XT, AT); RAM; number of diskette
drives; number of hard drives; number of printer ports; number of
RS232 ports; number of game ports; video adapter; video mode; DOS
version; Extended & Expanded Memory; CPU chip; presence of Math
Chip; the disk(ette) size, remaining space, etc.; and day of week
(system date). CPU was modified from PC Tech Journal (see
credits). Disk(ette) specifications.
Source & Gary D. Moore, and several outstanding books on the internals
Resource: of the PC. SysInfo was written in Structured BASIC using
Microsoft Professional BASIC v 7.1. Extended Memory routine was
my first assembly language routine to link to BASIC. References:
Advanced MS-DOS, Ray Duncan, Microsoft Press.
IBM Technical Manual, IBM Corporation.
Programmer's Guide To MS-DOS, Dennis Jump, Brady.
Programmer's Guide To The IBM PC, Peter Norton, Microsoft Press.
Remarks: SYSINFO determines the configuration of your personal computer
without opening the "hood." Of course, Norton's SI (System
Information) does more than SysInfo, but it can't be given away as
a freebee (legally). (Norton's Utilities are well worth the
investment. End of commercial.)
Caution: Some compatibles may not provide the correct results because the
BIOS or DOS may not be as compatible as claimed. Also, number of
diskette drives may be hardware switched (i.e. my Zenith Z-161 had
one floppy and a 21 Meg hard drive, SysInfo shows the internal
switch setting of "2" floppy drives because it looks at the
hardware switch).
Credits: Ethan Winer and staff at Crescent Software. Bob Felts for his
routine in PC Tech Journal, Vol 5 No. 11, p 51. I adapted
Bobs Felts' assembly routine to be "called" via BASIC.
Cost: Free to distribute with other Shareware programs by Gary D Moore
unless other arrangements are made at no more than the cost of a
diskette. Please include: SysInfo.EXE and SysInfo.DOC.
Donations are accepted. ALL donations are given to a Memorial
Scholarship Fund.
